Dog exercise areas Ballina Shire, Byron Shire, Gold Coast City Council and Tweed Shire

If you're visiting our region with your four pawed friends, please respect local regulations, clean up droppings, and keep your dog on leash where required, especially on beaches and in dune areas where migrating shore birds maybe nesting. In rural areas, please don't let your dog chase livestock or wildlife.

Ballina exercise areas

Council recognises the importance of dogs being allowed time to exercise unrestrained and there are seven off-leash areas in the shire.

Dogs can exercise, roam freely and socialise under the supervision of their owner or person in charge at the following desingated off-leash areas:

Off-Leash Dog Exercise Areas. Updated
  • Bicentennial Gardens, the northern area of the reserve
  • Ballina Compton Drive, East Ballina
  • Gap Road, Alstonville
  • Seven Mile Beach, north of Lake Ainsworth, (old 4WD access point), Lennox Head
  • Ballina Heights Estate, eastern reserve area, Ballina Heights
  • Headlands Drive Drainage Reserve, Skennars Head
  • The Spit, Ballina
  • Ballina Shire: Exercising your dog includes resources and also a list of  "no go" zones for dogs, because of the popularity of some beaches and the presence of migratory and shorebirds.
